BIG CITY, BAD BLOOD
Ray DUDGEON
A burnt-out former Chicago Reporter turned Private Eye. Ray Dudgeon IS a PI from the Old School - a definite and intentional throwback who is partial to booze, tobacco and a fair amount of rude wit. But all of his considerable investigative skills don’t help much when he agrees to act as a bodyguard for a scared prosecution witness - the Locations Manager of a film currently shooting in Chicago - who saw something that the Mob would really prefer he hadn’t. He only takes the case because he’s been assured by contacts within the Mob that they aren’t really interested in the guy. But soon enough, bodies start to drop and Dudgeon finds himself waist deep in a scandal involving blackmail, murder, hookers and organized crime that may reach as far as Washington. With the line between good and bad blurring, Ray doesn’t know who he can trust - or if he can even trust himself.
We learn more abouT how he is dealing with the challenge of opening up emotionally to a woman who genuinely cares about him, but is slipping through his fingers. He loves her but doesn’t know how to even begin to be the man she needs. He’s the kind of guy that if he’s got a job to do, he’s going to do it and see it through at any cost. As he tries to balance his relationship and the case - his future rests on a slippery slope of self destruction and impending danger.
